Our review of the Head Coello Vibe

The Coello Vibe is a beginner racket with a bigger head than most. A 525 cm² head is bigger than the 465–494 cm² heads on Head’s Speed and Extreme rackets, which widens the sweet spot and forgives mishits, and the fiberglass face keeps the feel soft. Power Foam is the ingredient Head uses to add ball speed, so the racket should give some easy power without a stiff face.

The 272 mm balance is the number that stands out. Head labels 270–272 mm as a high balance on its Extreme rackets, and on an oversized, 355 g teardrop it puts some weight in the head for overheads. That is unusual for a beginner racket, and it is the main difference in character from the Head Vibe, whose balance our review lists as even to low.

We have not played it ourselves, so this is an assessment of Head’s spec table and descriptions. On paper it suits a new player who wants some power built in, and Coello fans who want his signature racket at a low price.

Pros

  • Large 525 cm² head and a forgiving sweet spot
  • Soft fiberglass face with Power Foam for easy power
  • Arturo Coello signature at about $100
  • Innegra and protector system for durability

Cons

  • 272 mm balance is head-biased for a beginner racket
  • Fiberglass face gives little feedback
  • You will outgrow it as you improve
  • Less control than a round beginner racket

Who is the Head Coello Vibe for?

The Coello Vibe suits beginners and recreational players who want easy power and a big sweet spot, and fans of Arturo Coello who want a signature racket at an entry price. It also suits players coming from tennis who like a bigger head.

Who the Head Coello Vibe is not for

Skip it if you want the most forgiving control racket: a round racket with a low balance, such as the Bullpadel Indiga W, is usually easier to place. Improving players will outgrow it, and our intermediate racket guide lists the next step.

What to know before you buy the Head Coello Vibe

Coello Vibe versus the Head Vibe

Both are oversized teardrops for beginners with a fiberglass face. Our Head Vibe review covers a racket of about 360 g with an even to low balance, a soft EVA core, and the Coello Vibe has a Power Foam core, a balance of 272 mm and Coello’s signature graphics.

Weight and balance

Head lists 355 g, a balance of 272 mm, a 525 cm² head and a 455 mm length. The US listing calls the 355 g weight heavier and ties it to easy power, and the balance is head-biased, so it is worth checking that the swing feels comfortable.

Price

The US listing showed $99.90 at the time of writing, about $10 less than the Head Vibe listing. The Coello Vibe adds Coello’s signature design, a Power Foam core and a head-biased balance.

How the Head Coello Vibe plays

Volleys and blocks: The large head and the forgiving face make it easy to make contact and keep the ball in play.

Smashes and overheads: A balance of 272 mm and Power Foam give some easy power, and Head says Power Foam enhances attacking shots such as the smash.

Defense: The soft face is forgiving, although the head-biased balance makes it a little slower to swing than a low-balance racket.

Durability: Innegra and the Integrated Protector System are aimed at surviving the wall scrapes that beginners cause.

Head Coello Vibe vs the alternatives

Inside Head, the Vibe is the neutral beginner teardrop, the Coello Team is the step up with more power and the Coello Motion is the attacking version. Outside Head, the round Bullpadel Indiga W (~$110) and the round Wilson Optix V2 Lite (~$139) are the beginner rackets we have reviewed. Our best rackets for beginners guide compares the wider field.

Is the Head Coello Vibe worth it?

At about $100, the Coello Vibe is fair value for a beginner who wants some built-in power and likes the signature design, and it showed about $10 less than the Head Vibe listing. It is poor value for a player who will improve quickly, because the fiberglass face will hold them back.

Conclusion

The Head Coello Vibe is an oversized, forgiving teardrop with Power Foam and a fiberglass face. Its strengths are the big sweet spot, easy power and price. Its weaknesses are a head-biased balance for a beginner racket and limited feedback.
